The CIZ assesses whether people are entitled to care under the Long-term Care Act. It does so with the understanding that while the rules are the same for everyone, people do differ from one another. For that reason, CIZ staff personally assess each applicant’s individual long-term care needs. The assessment is independent and based on objective criteria, ensuring that evaluations are consistent across the country. These criteria are based on guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.

The CIZ has existed since 2005. The organization employs more than 1,500 people and has offices in Amsterdam, Utrecht (head office), Nijmegen, Rotterdam, and Zwolle.
