1. Description of the Challenge

Enviem Holding BV, a Dutch Family owned company (#18 in the EW annual list of family companies) is transitioning from a fuels company to an energy company. It currently operates 3 divisions. The retail division sells fuel to car drivers through their network of 700 TinQ and Gulf branded petrol stations. The lubricants division operates a large blending plant in Dordrecht that produces speciality lubricants for marine and automotive. The energy division manages three enterprises: energy supply for MKB and MKB+ companies in Netherlands through its company Hezelaer Energy BV. located in Eindhoven. It supplies power and gas to 20.000 households under the brandnames Energiebesteding and gezinsenergie. And it operates 2000 EV public and semi-public charging sockets in Dutch Charge BV.

Enviem is a lean and entrepreneurial company that has a no-nonsense culture and is focussed on giving its customers a good deal. Its energy division operates in the relative new a field of EV charging where CPO's, payment platforms and the power supplier form a supplychain to  provide power to EV drivers. As a relatively small, agile player with low overhead, Enviem wants to offer low cost charging to EV drivers by using the power market dynamics. In this relatively new market, price transparancy is limited (visibility of price on apps requires multiple clicks and drivers seem to pick a socket more on availability rather than price) and dynamic pricing isnt offered yet. This challenge should investigate the current market offers and develop an attractive proposition to incentify low cost charging in off-peak hours. Relevant areas of research are:

  • How does data exchange work between an energy supplier, payment platform and charging point, and what is realistically possible today to pass dynamic prices through to drivers?

  • Could Enviem let customers charge under the same conditions as their home or company energy contract, regardless of charging point location?

  • How can Enviem incentify EV drivers without the possibility of homecharging (think of city residents without their own driveway), to charge at the lowest cost and most sustainable moments?

  • What communication is required to rerach potential customers?

  • What is the business case of this offer?

2. Expected Outcome

Students deliver a pitched proposition for how Enviem can make this happen.
