1. Description of the Challenge

We want to explore how we can encourage elderly people to be more physically active without relying on staff, using simple and accessible technology. By combining insights from brain science and environmental psychology, we want this challenge to examine what triggers movement and how different environments influence behaviour, sleep–wake rhythms, and overall wellbeing.

The goal is to understand which conditions and cues can activate residents to move more independently, supporting healthy ageing while reducing pressure on care staff in a future-proof way.

2. Expected Outcome

A tested, easy-to-implement solution that uses behavioural and environmental cues to stimulate elderly residents to move more on their own, improving health and autonomy while easing pressure on care staff.
