Data Driven Logistics, Smarter Shipping and Trucking | Data & AI Summit
We are looking for students with an affinity for data analysis, logistics and supply chain management, such as Technical Business Administration, Data Science, Mechanical Engineering or Transport and Logistics. Experience with (public) data sources and an analytical, solution oriented mindset are a plus, as is a background in AI or machine learning.
1. Description of the Challenge
Huntsman is looking for smarter ways to plan and optimize its transport of raw materials and products by boat and truck. Storms and traffic disruptions regularly cause delays that are hard to predict, making it difficult for the factory and logistics teams to anticipate and respond in time. Public data on weather and traffic offers an opportunity to improve this planning process.
The challenge focuses on how public data can be used to optimize the logistics of boats and trucks, with the goal of predicting delays and improving transport planning. Participants can explore this from several angles, including the integration of storm data to better predict boat arrival times, the inclusion of alternative transport modes such as trucks and trains using traffic information, and an inventory of available transport options and sources to support optimization based on current capacity.
2. Expected Outcome
A concrete proposal for using public data sources, such as storm or traffic data, to improve delay prediction and transport planning for Huntsman. This can include a data integration approach, an extension to alternative transport modes, or an inventory of available transport options, supported by a clear rationale for how it improves current logistics planning.
