students living and studying in Amsterdam who feel connected to the city
1. Description of the Challenge
The Problem
Enhancing the resilience of Amsterdam during a potential 72-hour power outage is one of the city's greatest challenges; one that local government cannot solve alone. During such a blackout, emergency services must focus on assisting vulnerable citizens who need urgent care. Currently, there is a clear need for creative solutions to increase self-reliance among residents and ensure critical infrastructure and youth engagement remain strong during a crisis.
The Challenges
1) How can we design an independent, sustainable, decentralized, and mobile emergency power supply that keeps critical local operations functional during a 72-hour power outage?
2) How can we actively engage youth in crisis preparedness to boost community self-reliance and support Amsterdam during a 72-hour blackout?
2. Expected Outcome
1) Innovative, practical power solutions presented in an elevator pitch that can be rapidly deployed by the city.
2) Creative, actionable strategies presented in an elevator pitch to motivate and involve young residents in emergency readiness.
