1. Description of the Challenge

We want to extend the temperature range of a sensor (consisting of ceramic, platinum and platinum/rhodium components) from 1000°C up to 1600°C. In the current design the platinum wires that hold the sensor parts in place become to soft and lose their stability causing the sensor to deform. The design needs to be changed to improve the stability of the sensor. The sensor needs to maintain its ‘thermal balance’ and heat transfer to the balance (that holds this sensor) should not increase.

Extending the lifetime of the sensor would require less replacement sensors and consequently the use of the rare metals used in the sensor.
It would also improve the performance of the instrument and make the use of an autosampler easier.

2. Expected Outcome

The most ideal result would be a sensor that meets the given requirements. A realistic expectation would be some suggetions how to improve the current sensor design or suggestions for a different design.

About Anatech

Analytical measuring instruments Anatech, based in Sittard, develops and produces advanced analytical measuring equipment for fundamental and applied scientific materials research. Anatech was founded in 1987 with the conviction that measuring material properties should be better and (for the user) simpler. This belief is the basis for our focus on innovation. From its inception, Anatech has grown steadily into the solid company it is today. Anatech is a partner of various global players in the measuring instruments market and operates as a private label company. Through our partners, our instruments find their way to more than 120 countries around the world. Anatech has had a one-tier board since 2021, with the day-to-day management being formed by Hans Aben and Jeroen Plompen.
